About the position

Skyworks is seeking a Staff RF EM/Module Design Engineer to join our Cedar Rapids design team, which is renowned for its research and development capabilities in the field of RF/microwave technology. As a member of our team, you will engage in all phases of product development, from product definition and architecture to transistor-level circuit design and production support. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the front-end design of multi-chip modules, working closely with a team to develop Power Amplifiers (PA), RF switches, Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA), and acoustic filters. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring optimum module performance for the high-volume cellular handset market. You will also interact directly with customers to discuss specifications and provide solutions, manage floor-planning tasks, and lead new technology and architecture suggestions. The position requires a strong commitment to product development, from concept to volume production, and involves engaging in EDA design tool development to enhance design methodologies. Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of product development, including product definition, architecture, system budget, and transistor-level circuit design.
  • Drive the front-end design and collaborate with a multi-discipline team to develop PA, RF switches, LNA, and acoustic filters.
  • Interact directly with customers regarding Pin I/O, size, and performance specifications, providing suggestions and solutions.
  • Own floor-planning tasks, including module pinouts, package size, signal flows, and link budget.
  • Lead new technology and architecture suggestions with comprehensive analysis.
  • Drive front-end module design methodologies to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Conduct module design reviews and manage tapeout processes.
  • Support new package technology development and engage in EDA design tool development.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of RF/microwave fundamentals such as impedance matching, passive RLC and resonant circuits, noise, linearity, circuit stability, and electromagnetic theory.
  • Solid understanding of module building blocks, including Power Amplifiers, Low Noise Amplifiers, RF Switches, Couplers, Filters, and Multi-chip Modules.
  • Relevant experience in multi-chip module (MCM), PA, LNA, RF switch design, or passive circuit design such as integrated passive devices, couplers, and filters.
  • Strong circuit simulation skills utilizing Agilent ADS and 2.5/3D EM tools such as ADS Momentum/EMX, HFSS, and Cadence.
  • Basic lab skills in data collection/analysis, lab debug/tuning, and product troubleshooting.
  • Self-starter and team player with a strong desire to learn on the job and take products from concept to volume production.
  • Good communication skills, capable of breaking down complex problems and executing to schedule.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 6 years of experience or Ph.D. with 3 years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Good understanding of RF systems and familiarity with wireless standards including 3GPP cellular 2/3/4/5G/LTE, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth.
  • Solid understanding of device and process technologies.
  • Experience in system architecture, circuit topology, and MCM floorplan.
  • Experience in FEM product development and customer interaction.
  • Good understanding of acoustic filters such as SAW and BAW filters.
  • Experience in co-simulation of multiple technologies such as digital, analog, and RF circuits.
  • Familiarity with lab instruments including Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, RF Probe Stations, Noise Figure Analyzers, and Load-pull Tuners.
