About the position

The Staff RF Engineer at Northrop Grumman is responsible for leading the development and design of Digital Receiver Exciter (DREX) technology, focusing on advanced antenna backend solutions. This role is part of the Payload and Ground Systems Division, which is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation in engineering capabilities and providing decisive advantages to the warfighter. The position requires a strong background in RF/Microwave design and digital technology, with a focus on integrating subsystems and conducting performance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and design of Digital Receiver Exciter (DREX) technology.
  • Conduct subsystem control design and requirements derivation.
  • Generate documentation including test procedures, test reports, and RF requirements.
  • Perform data processing, measurements, and data reduction.
  • Integrate subsystems including DREX and antenna hardware.
  • Conduct Test Readiness Reviews (TRR).
  • Perform in-depth analysis of hardware down to the register level.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and production issues in a lab environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or related discipline with 12 years of experience, or 10 years with a master's degree, or 7 years with a Ph.D.
  • Expertise in working with receiver/exciters and conducting RF performance analysis.
  • Knowledge in VHDL or Verilog/System Verilog FPGA programming language.
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing algorithms.
  • Experience in integrating board designs and FPGA digital controls within a lab environment.
  • Capability to troubleshoot hardware/production issues on the bench.
  • Familiarity with RF and digital test equipment.
  • 2 years of experience leading a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present effectively to both internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency in mixed signal board design (RF and Digital).
