About the position

The Staff Robotics Engineer 1 position focuses on perception within the robotics domain. The role involves working on full-stack autonomy development, tackling diverse challenges such as control of construction equipment, drone navigation, and self-driving vehicles. The engineer will collaborate with a team of scientists and engineers to influence critical architecture decisions in machine learning and computer vision pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize implementation of localization and path planning systems for off-road vehicles.
  • Enhance back-end architecture for multi-platform autonomy behaviors across various UAGs and UAVs.
  • Simulate scenarios using tools like Unreal and Gazebo.
  • Provide ROS-compatible datasets for communication within the target architecture.
  • Assist in developing and implementing unit testing of code using simulation tools and actual hardware.
  • Conduct field tests and experimental characterization of performance.
  • Identify new opportunities to deploy autonomy and engage with target customers.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience with a bachelor's degree or 0-2 years with a master's degree.
  • Skilled in writing production-quality object-oriented code in C++ using a git-based workflow in a Linux environment.
  • Some experience with publish/subscribe communication frameworks, especially ROS.
  • Expert in applying modern software principles, architecture, and design.
  • Excellent mathematical reasoning skills, especially with probability.
  • Familiarity with unit testing suites such as GTest, CppUnit.
  • General understanding of Agile software development cycle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with autonomous and robotic systems.
  • Familiarity with sensor data processing software libraries such as Open CV and PCL.
  • Strong interest in perception technologies and applications.
  • Some experience with sensor data processing, sensor error modeling, and simulation tools.
  • Some experience with developing robotics algorithms.
