About the position

At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Staff/Senior Propulsion Engineer to help us create the future of flight. This position involves leading the development of propulsion systems for autonomous aircraft, ensuring that our designs meet the highest standards of performance and safety. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate propulsion systems into our aircraft designs, contributing to the overall success of our innovative projects. The role requires a deep understanding of aerospace propulsion systems and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. As a Staff/Senior Propulsion Engineer, you will be expected to mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of our engineering processes and practices. You will also be involved in business capture and early concept development for various propulsion systems, including commercial, government, and military applications. Responsibilities

  • Lead development of propulsion systems for autonomous aircraft.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate propulsion systems into aircraft designs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering process improvements.
  • Participate in business capture and early concept development for propulsion systems.
  • Conduct system safety assessments, failure hazard analysis, and certification and test plans for powerplant design.
  • Define system component requirements and oversee their design and development.
  • Plan, set up, and execute propulsion system tests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering (or related STEM discipline).
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience (or equivalent combination of technical education and experience).
  • Demonstrated expertise in aerospace propulsion systems.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Must be a US Person.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrable leadership experience on a cross-functional team.
  • Experience with engine-airframe integration, fuel systems, and power generation systems.
  • Experience leading aerospace propulsion system development, from conceptual design through production.
  • Experience with business capture and early concept development for commercial, government, and military propulsion systems.
  • Systems engineering experience with powerplant design including system safety assessments, failure hazard analysis, and certification and test plans.
  • System architectures design and performance analysis experience.
  • Experience with electric and hybrid-electric propulsion systems.
  • Experience using CAD systems (CATIA preferred).
