About the position

The Staff Site Reliability Engineer will play a crucial role in advancing Visa's Disaster Recovery Program. This position involves establishing new standards for disaster recovery capabilities across Visa's core platforms, collaborating with various teams to identify risks, and developing viable recovery solutions. The engineer will lead efforts in ensuring the security and reliability of Visa's information assets through rigorous testing and maintenance of disaster recovery plans.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Business and Technology units to identify critical functions.
  • Define recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs).
  • Develop and implement a best-practices Disaster Recovery (DR) program.
  • Ensure appropriate information security measures and disaster recovery processes are in place.
  • Regularly validate and maintain the disaster recovery plan through testing and updates.
  • Lead annual DR testing activities to ensure system readiness during a DR event.
  • Investigate and provide guidance on potential network issues using knowledge of network configurations, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Utilize cloud-hosted services expertise in disaster recovery processes.
  • Define protective measures for data using knowledge of storage devices and systems.
  • Provide expertise on data backup, restoration, and replication using databases like MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
  • Collaborate with middleware teams to integrate complex systems using platforms like Java Web Services and Apache Kafka.
  • Develop and maintain documentation including impact analysis and risk assessments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with a bachelor's degree or 8+ years of relevant work experience without a degree.
  • 3 years' experience in business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • 3 years' experience working with IT departments in building Disaster Recovery/BC plans.
  • 4+ years working knowledge of critical business processes, products, and services.
  • 2+ years' experience as a Technical Architect with strong application of Resiliency Architecture and Design Patterns.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and administrative skills.
  • Good understanding of Application/System/Infrastructure architectures and Backup/Restoration strategies.
  • Strong understanding of BCM and its partnership with IT Disaster Recovery.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6 or more years of work experience with a bachelor's degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree.
  • Capable of developing strong inter-departmental partnerships.
