About the position

The Staff Site Reliability Engineer at BetterUp is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the reliability and performance of the company's systems. The engineer will leverage Lean and Agile methodologies to implement non-functional requirements and manage operational processes, ensuring service level objectives are met. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Advocate for reducing complexity and empower others across the tech stack to drive excellence and innovation.
  • Distill and synthesize non-functional requirements into discreet and meaningful iterations for quick implementation.
  • Leverage Lean Startup and Agile methodologies along with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment infrastructure.
  • Manage the on-call rotation for the engineering squad and build processes that align with service level indicators.
  • Dive into logs and platform telemetry to identify potential performance, scale, and stability issues.

Requirements

  • 5+ years engineering experience, with some experience in a startup environment.
  • Recent experience with compliance and security regulations and processes.
  • Alignment with BetterUp's mission of enabling self-driven behavior change.
  • Experience in a remote work environment.
  • Advanced level experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Willingness to participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation.
  • Experience identifying and establishing meaningful service level indicators and objectives.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing in a high-level programming language (e.g., Python, Ruby, JavaScript).
  • Experienced in Agile product development processes (SCRUM, Kanban, Lean Startup, etc).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Impressive track record of maintaining quality, stability, and availability.
