About the position

As a Staff Software Engineer - Autonomy Analytics at Aurora, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design and development of sophisticated data systems that handle vast amounts of multimodal sensor collections, autonomy simulations, and machine learning datasets. This position is crucial as we aim to enhance the discoverability, throughput, and usability of our multi-modal offline data, which is essential for the successful deployment of our self-driving technology. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create internal products and establish best practices that will drive efficiency, transparency, and innovation as we launch our commercial Driver product. Your leadership will not only focus on technical excellence but also on mentoring and growing our engineering team, introducing new perspectives, technologies, and designs that will shape the future of our data management systems. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing customer-facing large-scale data management systems, ensuring that they are robust and scalable to meet the demands of our operations. Your experience with AWS infrastructure, particularly with S3 and Glue Catalog, will be instrumental in deploying these systems in a production environment. Additionally, your proficiency in Python and relational database systems will enable you to contribute effectively to our data management strategies. As you lead these initiatives, you will also have the opportunity to work closely with data scientists, enhancing the machine learning development workflow and ensuring that our data systems support their needs effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of data systems dealing with multimodal sensor collections, autonomy simulations, and ML datasets.
  • Improve the discoverability, throughput, and usability of multi-modal offline data.
  • Create internal products and best practices with cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency and innovation.
  • Mentor and grow the engineering team with new perspectives, technologies, and designs.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and deploying customer-facing large-scale data management systems.
  • Proven leadership in product development and launch.
  • Knowledge of machine learning development workflow and experience working with data scientists.
  • 4+ years of AWS infrastructure experience, including S3 and Glue Catalog in a production system.
  • 4+ years of Python development experience.
  • 4+ years of experience with relational database systems in a production environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years of C/C++ experience, including CUDA development.
