About the position

The Staff Software Engineer for Data & Analytics at Datadog will enhance the Data & Analytics Platform, which provides essential tools for data practitioners. This role involves driving high-priority projects, making key technical decisions, and collaborating with various teams to ensure the platform's resilience and scalability. The engineer will lead initiatives that support data ingestion, processing, storage, and querying, contributing to the overall growth and integration of the platform across multiple product teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and drive high-priority, high-visibility projects to increase the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams.
• Provide technical leadership across one or several areas of the platform.
• Lead and guide other engineers through architectural platform decisions.
• Identify potential system risks and trends in reliability and design solutions to address them.
• Provide input on prioritizing engineering-led initiatives in short- and long-term planning and roadmaps.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including product teams, to understand their requirements and plan for their product growth as they integrate and depend on our Data & Analytics platform.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience leading cross-team initiatives in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment.
• Proven track record of delivery and long-term operation of systems with performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience/operability as primary concerns.
• Significant back-end programming experience with distributed systems for data problems at scale, including batch and stream processing, event-driven microservices, and data-intensive applications.
• Experience in architecting, building, and operating data and metadata storage systems.
• Enjoyment in mentoring and coaching other engineers.
