About the position

The Staff Engineer will enhance the Data & Analytics Platform at Datadog, which provides essential tools for data practitioners. This role involves driving high-priority projects, making key technical decisions, and collaborating with various teams to improve the platform's value, resilience, and scalability. The position emphasizes technical leadership and mentoring within a hybrid workplace culture that values collaboration and creativity.

Responsibilities

• Design and drive high-priority, high-visibility projects to increase the platform's value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams.
• Provide technical leadership across one or several areas of the platform.
• Lead and guide other engineers through architectural platform decisions.
• Identify potential system risks and trends in reliability and design solutions to address them.
• Provide input on prioritizing engineering-led initiatives in short- and long-term planning and roadmaps.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including product teams, to understand their requirements and plan for their product growth as they integrate and depend on our Data & Analytics platform.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience leading cross-team initiatives in a platform or infrastructure-focused environment.
• Proven track record of delivery and long-term operation of systems with a focus on performance, cost efficiency, ease of use, and resilience/operability.
• Significant back-end programming experience with distributed systems for data problems at scale, including batch and stream processing, event-driven microservices, and data-intensive applications.
• Experience in architecting, building, and operating data and metadata storage systems.
• Enjoyment in mentoring and coaching other engineers.
