About the position

Rivian is seeking a seasoned Staff Data Engineer to play a critical role in advancing our data infrastructure, ensuring it meets the highest standards of reliability, scalability, and performance. This position involves leading the design and implementation of sophisticated data solutions that drive both functional and cross-functional success. The ideal candidate will have deep domain expertise, particularly in leveraging data to address complex problems and uncover opportunities. As a Staff Data Engineer, you will independently design, develop, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and workflows using advanced technologies, including SQL, Python, AWS, Kubernetes, Argo, AWS Batch, and Streaming Data. You will lead data engineering initiatives that align with organizational objectives, focusing on creating evaluation frameworks that compare simulations to ground truth. In this role, you will work effectively with limited supervision, managing high-level objectives while delivering on detailed, hands-on technical tasks. You will drive projects that involve diverse stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of expectations and careful tracking of progress to maintain high standards. Collaboration across teams will be essential to influence decision-making processes and drive cross-functional goals. You will also identify and resolve conflicts by understanding and integrating different perspectives, fostering a collaborative working environment. Additionally, you will implement and manage change initiatives, making a compelling case for improvements and securing early buy-in from stakeholders. Mentoring and guiding junior data engineers will be a key aspect of your role, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on building and optimizing complex data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, AWS services, Kubernetes, Argo, AWS Batch, and Streaming Data.
  • Proven experience in developing evaluation frameworks comparing simulations to ground truth.
  • Proven experience in working with autonomous vehicles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with a track record of delivering projects that exceed expectations.
  • Experience working with data from Autonomous vehicles preferred.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and model deployment preferred.
  • Experience in a cloud-native environment with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices preferred.
