About the position

The Software Engineer position at Personio focuses on enhancing the data platform to empower engineers in building data-rich experiences. This role involves designing, developing, and delivering innovative solutions that improve developer experience and operational excellence. The engineer will work closely with product and engineering teams to create a reliable and scalable data platform, ensuring high-quality systems that meet the needs of internal teams and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and own technical solutions end-to-end.
  • Organize effective groups of engineers to brainstorm, design, and deliver impactful work.
  • Experiment and build platform solutions that improve the developer experience for all product teams.
  • Manage the entire software lifecycle from building, testing, deploying, releasing, to monitoring across environments.
  • Foster relationships with product teams to support platform-specific migrations.
  • Teach engineers, especially new joiners, how to use tools through talks, workshops, and documentation.
  • Manage technical debt and refactor existing solutions.
  • Drive the platform forward with new ideas and strategies for quality, reliability, security, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience building and designing scalable applications, tools, or distributed systems.
  • Experience in designing, building, documenting, and distributing robust platform solutions end-to-end.
  • Deep understanding of DevOps tools and technologies such as Kubernetes, AWS, Gitlab, DataDog, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Kafka operations and building platform tools that utilize Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience with database technologies like Debezium is a plus.
  • Interest in development processes and practices, eager to optimize and automate them.
  • Experience in prototype, build, deploy, and operate data streaming applications with Kafka Streams.
  • Experience acting as a mentor or role model to other engineers.

  • Experience leading pair and mob programming sessions.
  • Experience setting up and running technical brainstorming and solution design sessions.
