About the position

The Data Privacy team at Lyft is dedicated to protecting the data of drivers, passengers, and partners. As a member of this team, you will collaborate with various departments to ensure that products and services safeguard individual and company data from unauthorized access. Your role will involve implementing controls, consulting with teams, and advocating for data privacy across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop critical frameworks that control access to systems, encrypt sensitive data, and create audit trails.
  • Build and launch tools that continuously and automatically identify vulnerabilities and undesirable practices, improving visibility for incident response.
  • Identify weaknesses in technical and human workflows; develop solutions to mitigate or correct weaknesses.
  • Consult with engineering teams on privacy issues throughout the software development life-cycle.
  • Build and launch distributed systems in AWS, built on top of NoSQL datastores such as DynamoDB and MongoDB.
  • Consult with engineering and legal teams to understand data retention, deletion, use, and exposure requirements.
  • Advocate for data privacy throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Experience as a software engineer with proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language.
  • Strong coding skills and enthusiasm for launching services and tools in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in collaborative environments.
  • Sound judgment and a strong work ethic.
  • Independently triage and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and identify weak spots in complex systems.
  • Experience with implementing coding standards, source control management, build processes, code reviews, and testing.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or another cloud infrastructure provider.
  • Experience with NoSQL datastores (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB).
  • Knowledge of distributed SQL query engines (e.g., Trino and Spark).
  • Experience with workflow management tools (e.g., Airflow).
  • Experience in building distributed systems or web applications at scale.
  • Familiarity with secure coding frameworks (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
