About the position

The Staff Software Engineer in Electrical Power Systems at GE Vernova is responsible for designing and programming software components and features for advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS). This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate power systems applications with data analytics, ensuring timely delivery of customer projects while adhering to high-quality software development practices. The engineer will also mentor new team members and participate in design discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for R&D activities contributing to the development of new advanced features and applications in Power Systems Software Engineering.
  • Integrate advanced EMS power systems applications with Data Analytics applications in collaboration with Power System Engineers, Data Scientists, and Software Developers.
  • Test, tune, and fix issues associated with advanced EMS power systems application software.
  • Manage customer projects to ensure software deliveries are on schedule, within budget, and meet customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate best practices and high-quality software development processes.
  • Write documentation for new project tasks, including design notes and testing procedures.
  • Provide effort estimates to Project Manager and Project Engineer.
  • Support demos of new and advanced applications and features.
  • Mentor new team members on existing power systems applications.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Power Systems Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 6+ years of experience in production-grade software design and development in Electrical Power Systems.
  • Deep domain knowledge and coding skills for basic power system algorithms such as Powerflow, Optimal Powerflow, and State Estimation.
  • Proficiency in software languages such as C++, Python, and Matlab.
  • Experience in designing and developing software architecture.
  • Experience in data visualization and deployment of software applications at customer sites.
