About the position

As a Staff Engineer at Best Buy, you will play a crucial role in the software development lifecycle, leading the design and development of a Software Orchestration Portal and Delivery Pipeline. This position involves significant architectural influence and requires a deep understanding of the implications of technical decisions. You will be responsible for researching and providing solutions to complex problems while ensuring the quality and efficiency of multiple teams' outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of a large capabilities or set of products or processes
  • Ensure the quality of one or more teams' output
  • Identify opportunities in the SDLC, application support, reliability, and monitoring; recommend tools and standards to improve efficiency
  • Understand and influence the broad architecture of multiple systems or processes
  • Stay up to date on evolving standards, platform features, and critical vendor and community technologies
  • Own the technical testing and performance of the products or processes
  • Communicate effectively about the tradeoffs between technical, analytical, and product needs
  • Set direction at the project, product, or process level and influence decision making across teams, delivering projects on-time and on budget

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5 or more years of experience with Ruby, Python, Go, or other programming languages
  • Understanding of HTTP, REST, Bearer Auth, JSON Web Tokens, and OAuth
  • 2 or more years of experience configuring and maintaining Linux systems and installed services
  • 2 or more years of experience with Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, OpenShift, or other orchestration/containerization platforms
  • 2 or more years of experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)

Nice-to-haves

  • 7 or more years of relevant experience
  • 7 or more years of experience with Ruby, Python, Go, or other programming languages
  • Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, Bearer Auth, JSON Web Tokens, and OAuth
  • Experience with Ruby, with and without Rails
  • Experience with multiple web frameworks such as Angular, React, Vue
  • Experience with MySQL, Postgres, Memcached, and Redis
  • Experience with messaging platforms like RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, Kafka
  • Knowledge of Linux, networking, DNS, firewalls, load balancers, and other basic infrastructure
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment
  • Experience with Terraform and familiarity with GitOps
