About the position

The Staff Software Engineer for Stream Governance at Confluent will serve as the technical lead for key initiatives within the Stream Governance product portfolio. This role is essential for advancing Confluent's mission to integrate event streaming into organizations, focusing on delivering critical services that enhance data accessibility, organization, and compliance. The engineer will collaborate with teams to design and develop a cloud-native, multi-tenant service that addresses complex data challenges at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a cloud-native Stream Governance platform for Kafka and real-time data, ensuring it is multi-tenant, highly available, and scalable.
  • Architect a complex engineering system from end to end.
  • Partner with engineering and key stakeholders to create and execute the roadmap for the Data Streaming Platform.
  • Evaluate and enhance the efficiency of the platform's technology stack, adopting state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Solve complicated technical projects with high quality and provide technical guidance to the team.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain a mission-critical service with a 99.99 SLA across multiple cloud regions.
  • Enhance stability, performance, scalability, and operational excellence across critical systems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant software development experience.
  • Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, secure, highly available, low latency, high quality systems.
  • Deep hands-on technical expertise in hyper-scale distributed systems engineering.
  • Experience running production services in the cloud and being part of on-call rotation.
  • Expertise in cloud-native technology, including networking & security.
  • Prior experience working on AWS, GCP, or Azure with a deep understanding of cloud best practices.
  • Ability to influence the team, peers, and management using effective communication and collaborative techniques.
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring technical teams.
  • Drive results by removing friction and improving the development stack with urgency and prioritization skills.
  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience; an advanced degree in computer science is preferred.
