About the position

As a Staff Software Engineer (UI Lead) at Fortive Corporation, you will lead the UI design and development efforts to modernize an existing web application. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to create user-friendly and visually appealing interfaces, ensuring high standards of design and usability are met.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the UI team to align on proper UI architecture and technologies from concept to implementation, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.
  • Provide direct contribution to the solution.
  • Collaborate with UX team to translate wireframes, prototypes, and user flows into high-fidelity visual designs and interactive interfaces.
  • Work closely with front-end developers to ensure the accurate implementation of designs and maintain design consistency across all platforms.
  • Establish and maintain design systems, style guides, and UI patterns to ensure a cohesive and scalable design language.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and elevate the quality of our UI designs.
  • Mentor and guide junior UI designers, fostering their growth and development within the team.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand project requirements, define design goals, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Conduct usability testing and gather user feedback to iterate and refine designs based on user insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in UI architecture design and development, with a strong portfolio showcasing design skills and successful projects.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD), Sketch, Figma, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, React, etc.) and their impact on design.
  • Strong knowledge of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout techniques.
  • Experience with responsive and adaptive design approaches for various devices and screen sizes.
  • Experience with UI testing using latest testing frameworks (e.g. Playwright).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationale to stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality, pixel-perfect designs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and inspire a team of designers.

  • Familiarity with user research methodologies and usability testing.
