About the position

The Staff Software QA Engineer at ZOLL is responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining software test plans and cases for safety-critical medical devices. This role involves collaborating within a Scrum team to ensure high-quality software testing, risk identification, and compliance with regulatory guidelines. The engineer will also lead testing activities, generate defect reports, and assist development teams in troubleshooting defects, all while adhering to software release schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the testing activities for projects and provide status updates.
  • Test software running on safety-critical medical devices and associated applications.
  • Design and review test plans and test cases.
  • Execute and maintain test plans and test cases to verify design specifications.
  • Identify and communicate risks throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Point out ambiguities in requirements and generate detailed defect reports for failed tests.
  • Assist development teams with troubleshooting defects.
  • Facilitate cross-functional defect, test plan, and test case reviews.
  • Provide estimates on the test effort for work items.
  • Participate in program, design, and document reviews.
  • Adhere to department software release schedules and comply with regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure and document traceability from requirements to tests.
  • Monitor test automation results for assigned applications.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops and publications.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree or equivalent industry experience in a STEM discipline required.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Proven track record performing the above duties and responsibilities required.
  • Experience writing SQL queries required.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell required.
  • Experience working with Linux OS file system required.
  • Experience testing web services using tools such as Postman, SoapUI, Swagger required.
