In this role as a Staff Software QA Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, execution, and maintenance of software test plans, test cases, and test status reporting. You will conduct software testing activities within a Scrum team, requiring a high level of collaboration, technical competence, and personal productivity. The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is essential. Your work will directly contribute to the safety and efficacy of software running on critical medical devices, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of quality and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the testing activities for projects and provide status updates on those activities.
  • Test software running on safety-critical medical devices and associated applications.
  • Design and review test plans and test cases.
  • Execute and maintain test plans and test cases to verify that the design meets specified requirements.
  • Identify and communicate risks throughout the software development lifecycle and work cross-functionally to mitigate those risks.
  • Identify and point out ambiguities in requirements.
  • Generate detailed defect reports for failed tests.
  • Assist development teams with troubleshooting defects.
  • Facilitate cross-functional defect, test plan, and test case reviews.
  • Provide estimates on the test effort for work items.
  • Participate in program, design, and document reviews.
  • Adhere to department software release schedules.
  • Comply with regulatory guidelines and maintain associated documentation.
  • Ensure and document traceability from requirements to tests.
  • Monitor test automation results for assigned applications.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in software quality assurance and testing, particularly in a medical device environment.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes, particularly Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience in designing and executing test plans and test cases.
  • Ability to identify and communicate risks effectively throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with test automation tools and scripting languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with safety-critical software testing.
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines for medical devices (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).
