About the position

The Staff Solutions Engineer at ZT Systems will play a crucial role in managing the lifecycle of firmware used in infrastructure components such as chassis and racks. This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with a team of solutions and systems engineers to thoroughly understand customer requirements. The engineer will be involved in the design, implementation, testing, and release of products, ensuring that they meet the needs of customers effectively. A key responsibility will be to drive the evaluation and adoption of solutions that facilitate the integration of infrastructure products into customer datacenter operations. In this role, the engineer will be tasked with writing and analyzing various technical documents, including requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, and test plans. They will also perform system concept evaluations and sample builds to gather important measurements such as benchmarks and power metrics. The engineer will develop scripts in Linux/BASH, Perl, and Python to support testing and deployment activities across different environments. Additionally, they will deploy and provision operating systems and software stacks on server platforms, and provide support for triaging and root cause analysis of complex system issues. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of server products and technologies, including server BIOS, BMC, RAID/HBA controllers, and modern network technologies. They should have experience with scripting and automation languages, and an analytic problem-solving mindset. The position requires the ability to work independently under tight deadlines and a strong sense of ownership in meeting deliverables and resolving issues. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, along with at least 5 years of experience in application/system development and design of computer servers, is essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the lifecycle of firmware for infrastructure controllers from design through sustaining.
  • Collaborate with solutions and systems engineers to understand customer requirements.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, testing, and release of products.
  • Drive evaluation and adoption of solutions for integrating infrastructure products into customer datacenters.
  • Write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, and test plans.
  • Perform system concept evaluations and sample builds for measurements such as benchmarks and power metrics.
  • Develop Linux/BASH shell scripts, Perl, and Python packages for testing and deployment activities.
  • Deploy and provision operating systems and software stacks on server platforms.
  • Support triage and root cause analysis of complex system issues.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of server products including server BIOS, BMC, RAID/HBA controllers, and deployment/management tools.
  • Knowledge of cloud/big data software stack model and provisioning/deployment of open standard software stacks.
  • Understanding of modern network technology such as Cisco Nexus, Arista, and Fiber Optics.
  • Experience with scripting/automation languages including BASH, SQL, Expect, Python, and Ruby.
  • Analytic problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work independently under aggressive timelines.
  • Strong ownership skills in meeting deliverables and driving issue resolution.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in application/system development and design of computer servers.
