About the position

The Staff Systems Engineer will be part of the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) team at Northrop Grumman, focusing on developing solutions for missile defense systems. This role involves collaboration with various engineering teams and requires flexibility to support diverse tasks. The engineer will work under the guidance of the Systems Engineering Lead and engage with management and government customers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Use Case briefing development support to junior systems engineering team members.
  • Support the development and review of Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Requirements, and Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM).
  • Conduct formal and informal engineering reviews and adhere to DOORS processes and procedures.
  • Act as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts as required.
  • Participate in Agile development efforts, including iteration planning and agile team leadership.
  • Analyze high-level needs and define a structured approach to refine capabilities into integrated requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings clearly.
  • Write and implement project engineering plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 10 years of experience, or a PhD and 8 years of experience.
  • Experience developing system engineering artifacts such as Interface Control Documents and Use Cases Briefings.
  • Understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
  • Experience working in an integrated team environment with other engineers.
  • Proven track record of applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions.
  • Ability to decompose requirements from parent-level to lower system/subsystem-level requirements.
  • Ability to write and implement engineering plans within a project.
  • Current active in-scope DoD issued secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Top Secret clearance.
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment.
  • Domain experience with both Space and Missile Defense.
  • Experience in mission analysis and SysML modeling in support of MBSE.
  • A DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher.
