About the position

The Technical Program Manager (TPM) at Cruise will lead cross-functional technical and strategic programs that significantly impact the business. This role involves defining program strategies, managing dependencies, mitigating risks, and ensuring the successful delivery of initiatives from inception to completion. The TPM will collaborate with various teams, including engineering, product management, and design, to enhance the transportation experience through advanced automation and workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the overall program strategy, including goals, objectives, and milestones for large-scale, cross-functional technical programs.
  • Drive program execution by coordinating with cross-functional teams, providing clear direction, removing roadblocks, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead and drive multiple technical programs simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality outcomes.
  • Leverage deep technical understanding to make informed decisions, anticipate risks, influence trade-offs, and guide engineering teams towards successful outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with senior leaders, product managers, engineering teams, and other partners to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and ensure successful program execution.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks throughout to ensure timely delivery and high-quality results, developing contingency plans as needed.
  • Clearly communicate program status, risks, and mitigation plans to partners at all levels, including senior executives.
  • Guide and mentor junior program managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.
  • Find opportunities to improve program management processes and methodologies, implementing solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 to 8+ years of experience in technical program management or a related role, with a proven track record of managing large-scale, complex technical programs.
  • Strong technical background with a deep understanding of software development, systems architecture, and product development processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and achieve results in a cross-functional, matrixed environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues and proactively develop mitigation plans.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities and business needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the autonomous vehicle industry and a start-up company environment.
  • Knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and platforms.
