About the position

Confluent is seeking an expert Technical Writer to contribute to the documentation of Confluent, a comprehensive distribution of the Apache Kafka distributed streaming platform. This role is pivotal in ensuring that developers can easily build and implement a streaming platform that is central to their operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for technology and communication, thriving in a culture that values high-quality documentation. You will collaborate with engineers, the community, and various stakeholders to produce documentation that is not only informative but also engaging and user-friendly. Your work will directly impact how organizations leverage data streaming technology to innovate and enhance their operations. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with teams including Engineering, Product, and Support to create world-class developer documentation that ensures customer success. You will be responsible for producing documentation that features unified examples, maintains a consistent style, and meets high-quality standards. As a key member of the Product organization, you will act as a user advocate, providing insights that inform product and feature development, ultimately enhancing the user experience and facilitating the adoption of Confluent's technology.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Support, and other teams to create world-class developer documentation.
  • Produce documentation with unified examples, consistent style, and high quality.
  • Act as a user advocate within the Product organization to inform product and feature development.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience writing technical documentation for an external developer audience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a modern documentation toolchain, including experience with GitHub.
  • Experience using Markdown, reStructuredText, or equivalent documentation formats.
  • Experience reading code in languages such as Java or Python.
  • Experience using or documenting distributed systems technologies.
  • Proven track record of developing systematic solutions for cohesive documentation.
  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Learning Technology, or a related field.

  • Mastery of documentation DevOps processes and tooling.
