About the position

Confluent is seeking an expert Technical Writer to contribute to the documentation of Confluent, a comprehensive distribution of the Apache Kafka distributed streaming platform. This role is pivotal in ensuring that developers can easily build and implement a streaming platform that is central to their operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for technology and communication, and will thrive in a culture that values high-quality documentation. You will collaborate with engineers, the community, and other stakeholders to produce documentation that is not only informative but also engaging and user-friendly. Your work will directly impact customer success by providing clear and concise guidance on using Confluent's technology effectively. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with various teams including Engineering, Product, and Support to create world-class developer documentation. Your responsibilities will include producing documentation that features unified examples, maintains a consistent style, and meets high-quality standards. As a key member of the Product organization, you will act as a user advocate, providing insights that inform product and feature development. Your contributions will help shape the user experience and ensure that developers have the resources they need to succeed with Confluent's offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Support, and more to create world-class developer documentation that ensures customer success.
  • Produce documentation with unified examples, consistent style, and jaw-dropping quality.
  • Act as a user advocate that informs product and feature development.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience writing technical documentation for an external developer audience.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a modern documentation toolchain, including GitHub experience.
  • Experience using Markdown, reStructuredText, or equivalent.
  • Experience reading code in languages such as Java or Python.
  • Experience using or documenting distributed systems technologies.
  • Proven track record of coming up with systematic solutions that others can utilize to efficiently build cohesive experiences.
  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Learning Technology, or related field.
