About the position

Confluent is seeking a highly skilled Staff Technical Writer to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona. In this role, you will be instrumental in documenting Confluent, which is a comprehensive distribution of the Apache Kafka distributed streaming platform. We are looking for a writer who possesses a deep passion for technology and communication, as well as a commitment to producing high-quality documentation. As a Staff Technical Writer, you will work cross-functionally with teams including Engineering, Product, and Support to develop world-class developer documentation that ensures customer success. Your responsibilities will include producing documentation that features unified examples, maintains a consistent style, and exemplifies exceptional quality. You will serve as a key member of the Product organization, acting as a user advocate who informs product and feature development based on user needs and feedback. This position requires a seasoned professional with over 10 years of experience in writing technical documentation for external developer audiences. You should possess excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to navigate a modern documentation toolchain, including experience with GitHub. Familiarity with Markdown, reStructuredText, or similar formats is essential, as is the ability to read code in programming languages such as Java or Python. Experience in documenting distributed systems technologies is also a key requirement. A proven track record of developing systematic solutions that enable others to create cohesive experiences is highly valued. A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Learning Technology, or a related field is required.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a modern documentation toolchain, including GitHub experience.
  • Experience using Markdown, reStructuredText, or equivalent.
  • Experience reading code in languages such as Java or Python.
  • Experience using or documenting distributed systems technologies.
  • Proven track record of coming up with systematic solutions that others can utilize to efficiently build other experiences that feel cohesive.
  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Learning Technology, or related field.
