About the position

As a Staff Test Engineer at Itron, Inc., you will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary engineering team dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of utility metering products. This role involves designing, implementing, and validating innovative and cost-effective methods for configuring and testing various products, systems, and equipment. Your primary focus will be on the manufacture and testing of utility metering products, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. In this position, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining test stations and fixtures, along with the associated control hardware. You will also be tasked with creating and sustaining custom software applications in C# and C++ that facilitate manufacturing processes. A significant part of your role will involve maintaining databases, such as MS-SQL, to support these processes effectively. You will be expected to optimize manufacturing processes by analyzing existing data streams, identifying ideal process parameters, and implementing timely responses when processes deviate from established standards. Continuous improvement will be a key focus, as you work to enhance the quality, cycle time, and reliability of production equipment through both hardware and software modifications. Additionally, you will document processes, equipment, and products as necessary, and may have opportunities for project leadership and management based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and sustain configuration/test methods for the manufacture of products.
  • Develop and maintain test stations and fixtures with associated controls hardware.
  • Develop and maintain Custom C# and C++ software applications which control manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain databases (such as MS-SQL) to support manufacturing processes.
  • Optimize manufacturing processes by monitoring existing streams of data, understanding what makes an ideal process, and learning when to respond when processes fall out of standards.
  • Continuous improvement of quality, cycle time, and reliability of production equipment through hardware and/or software modifications.
  • Documentation of processes, equipment, and products as needed.
  • Project leadership and management opportunities may be assigned in accordance with departmental needs.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of electrical circuit design.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software integration.
  • Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams.
  • Professional workplace communication skills.
  • Ability to code in several languages (C# and C++ highly preferred).
  • Experience with databases (MS-SQL highly preferred).
