About the position

The Staff UX Designer position at Walmart is a pivotal role within the U.S. Omni & Platforms Tech Strategic Communications team, which is part of Walmart Global Technology. This team is dedicated to a variety of brand-centric projects that enhance associate engagement and customer experiences. As a Staff UX Designer, you will collaborate closely with a diverse group of professionals, including designers, copywriters, product managers, and marketers, to evolve brand design systems and create engaging experiences for partners, customers, and associates alike. Your work will involve defining, evolving, and documenting flexible design systems that are integral to both internal and external communications and products. In this role, you will be responsible for designing unique brand identities for various initiatives, including associate engagement programs, webpages, email campaigns, marketing collateral, environmental graphics, and applications. You will also create captivating presentations that enable leadership and partners to effectively communicate ideas and products. Your goal will be to elevate the quality of designs across all channels, ensuring that deliverables are intuitive and delightful for users. Additionally, you will play a key role in fostering a culture of excellence by developing best practices and design processes that support agile collaboration across teams. To thrive in this position, you should have a strong background in design, with at least 8 years of experience in either in-house creative teams or agencies. A robust design portfolio showcasing your work in brand, product, web design, and illustration is essential. You will need to be a natural collaborator and communicator, capable of navigating ambiguity and adapting to changes in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, along with strong organizational skills, will be crucial for managing multiple projects effectively. Your ability to uphold brand design systems across various platforms will also be a significant aspect of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with designers, copywriters, product managers, marketers, and other cross-functional partners to evolve brand design systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help shape the evolution of the brands, voice, and strategy.
  • Help define, evolve, and document flexible design systems in our internal/external communications and products.
  • Design unique brand identities for associate engagement programs, webpages, email campaigns, marketing collateral, environmental graphics, social, and applications.
  • Create captivating and professionally branded presentations for leadership, partners, and product owners.
  • Elevate and bring a level of polish across the designs developed for customers and associates by creating intuitive and delightful deliverables.
  • Inspire, create, and sustain a culture of excellence by helping to develop, guide best practices, and design processes that enable agility and support smooth cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in UI/UX design, graphic design, visual communication, product design, computer science, information technology, or related area and 4 years' experience in UI/UX, interactive and visual design, electronics art, multimedia design, or related area.
  • 6 years' experience in UI/UX, interactive and visual design, electronics art, multimedia design, or related area if no degree is held.
  • A design portfolio with brand, product, web design, and illustration work showing projects you've worked on and led.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator), and Microsoft Office Suite (specifically PowerPoint and Word).
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to thrive in ambiguity and fast-paced environments.
  • Self-motivated problem-solver with a strong track record of delivering work independently and influencing other designers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Design certification (for example, IDEOU - Foundations in Design Thinking Certificate).
  • Master's degree in UI/UX Design, Interactive and Visual Design, Product Design, or related area.
  • Experience in related industries such as retail, supply chain, eCommerce, or healthcare.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and experience in creating inclusive digital experiences.
