About the position

The Staff VP Strategy & Planning (Chief-of-Staff) at Elevance Health is a pivotal role responsible for providing comprehensive strategy, planning, communications, resource planning, and execution to support and promote the long-term initiatives of the Health Benefit Operations Business. This position requires a strategic partner who will collaborate closely with the Health Benefits Organization leadership team and key growth partners across the enterprise to drive strategy and execution in alignment with HBO's strategic priorities, business plans, and goals. The role involves integrating internal and external financial and business commitments to ensure cohesive operational governance. In this capacity, the Staff VP will lead HBO's annual strategic planning efforts, which includes coordinating team efforts, planning and facilitating strategic offsites, and creating and documenting HBO's annual business planning documents. The ability to translate complex, technical information into presentation-friendly formats, including graphical displays, is essential for effectively communicating with a wide variety of internal and external executive audiences. Regular updates on strategic priorities and business implications will be communicated across multiple stakeholders, ensuring alignment and clarity. The position also entails coordinating Operational Governance Meetings, which includes setting the meeting cadence, preparing materials, and managing follow-up action items. Identifying, reporting, and tracking risks and opportunities that may affect financial, operational, growth, or reputational performance across the business is a critical responsibility. The Staff VP will create crossline business partnerships to foster initiatives and collaborate with enterprise partners, acting as a strategic liaison on behalf of the COO. This role will also involve hiring, training, coaching, counseling, and evaluating the performance of direct reports, ensuring a high-performing team that aligns with the organization's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Health Benefits Organization leadership team and key growth partners to drive strategy and execution in support of HBO's strategic priorities.
  • Lead HBO's annual strategic planning, coordinating team efforts and facilitating strategic offsites.
  • Translate complex, technical information into presentation-friendly formats for executive audiences.
  • Communicate regular updates on strategic priorities and business implications across multiple stakeholders.
  • Coordinate Operational Governance Meetings, including setting cadence and preparing materials.
  • Identify, report, and track risks and opportunities affecting financial, operational, growth, or reputational performance.
  • Create crossline business partnerships to foster initiatives and collaborate with enterprise partners.
  • Act as strategic liaison on behalf of the COO, collaborating with other Chief of Staff associates.
  • Hire, train, coach, counsel, and evaluate performance of direct reports.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience in large-scale project management, strategic planning, or consulting in the healthcare industry.
  • Significant experience in strategic planning and execution.
