Wirecutter is looking for a staff writer to focus on style: apparel and accessories. You’ll find the best of the best for categories like T-shirts, sneakers, sunglasses, and tote bags–research-heavy projects that can often take weeks or months to complete. You may also be asked to write lighter fare, perhaps testing an Insta-famous bathrobe to see if it lives up to the hype or explaining how to best care for a pricey leather jacket. You have a firm grasp of all categories of style—apparel, accessories and bags, shoes—and knowledge of the category landscape, from emerging brands and social media trends to cult-status standbys. You’re a fashion enthusiast who knows how to apply a skeptic’s eye when reading marketing claims, and while you have a wide array of industry contacts, you also understand the importance of journalistic standards and integrity. You’re passionate about cutting through the noise of the fashion industry to help people find the right products for their unique situations and thoughtful about making inclusive recommendations. You are comfortable collaborating with team members and editors, but should also enjoy spending a good portion of time researching, testing, writing, and responding to edits independently. As a Wirecutter writer, you’ll also recognize the importance of considering those with different needs and diverse perspectives when writing guides or other pieces of journalism. You will have the potential to be remote, though preference will be given to candidates based in New York City.
