Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or the Administrative Supervisor, this position plays a crucial role in assisting with the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the staffing needs within the Department of Nursing. The individual in this role is expected to promote positive relationships with all staff and departmental leaders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the nursing units. The responsibilities include preparing and maintaining accurate schedules and attendance records, consistently communicating staffing changes to the unit through various channels such as telephone, text message, and computer. The goal is to provide optimal staffing as per the staffing plan for each assigned nursing unit, escalating issues appropriately when goals cannot be met due to resource limitations. The position requires adherence to safe scheduling practices and maintaining accurate records of unplanned absences, Patient Attendant requests, and Charge Nurse requests for increased staffing due to high acuity or low census. The individual must demonstrate the ability to use appropriate scheduling codes for documentation and apply pay codes accurately. Familiarity with the API Centricity staffing and scheduling module, as well as time and attendance modules, is essential while assisting Managers, Team Leaders, or Charge Nurses as needed. The role also involves making fair and consistent staffing adjustments based on call-ins, acuity changes, census, caregiver hours, and recommendations from management. Effective communication is key, as the individual will need to route information and telephone calls to the appropriate personnel and respond to requests within defined policy periods. The position requires the preparation of daily staffing huddle forms and accurate communication of staffing needs to the Administrative Supervisor. The individual will also review assigned departments, maintain attendance records, and generate unit reports at predefined intervals. Completing assigned tasks in a timely manner, adjusting personal schedules to meet departmental needs, and attending mandatory in-service programs and required training are also part of the job. The role demands adherence to DCH Standards, maintaining performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and compliance with all policies and procedures.
