About the position

The Staffing Specialist at the Minnesota Department of Revenue plays a crucial role in managing human resource staffing, job classification, and compensation responsibilities. This position supports the department's management and staff by ensuring that staffing processes are completed accurately and in compliance with state regulations. The role involves working with employees throughout their career lifecycle, including administering the New Employee Orientation program and assisting employees nearing retirement. The position is eligible for telework for residents of certain states, with occasional in-office attendance required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional level human resource staffing, job classification, and compensation responsibilities.
  • Ensure staffing, job classification, and compensation responsibilities are completed timely and accurately.
  • Administer the New Employee Orientation program for new hires.
  • Guide employees through the retirement process.
  • Collaborate with a team of staffing specialists to support department management and staff.

Requirements

  • Two years of Human Resources experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in human resource management or a closely related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Experience supporting staffing functions such as recruitment and selection, classification, job evaluation, or compensation administration.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to guide others through difficult issues and problems.
  • Experience with an HRIS (Human Resources Information System) applicant tracking system such as PeopleSoft.
  • Experience handling sensitive, controversial, or confidential information.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Word.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience presenting in-person and virtually to groups of all sizes.
  • Experience analyzing and/or recommending compensation decisions.
  • Experience working with diverse populations to promote and enhance diversity, inclusion, and equality.
  • Experience participating in continuous improvement projects.
  • Experience with union/labor contracts related to personnel transactions or vacancy filling.
