About the position

The State Accountant IV position is responsible for providing guidance and support in financial accounting and reporting for state organizations. This role involves assisting with accounting training, ensuring compliance with internal control policies, and preparing schedules for financial reporting, including the State's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

Responsibilities

• Provides guidance, direction, and recommendations to state agencies and organizations in fiscal oversight functions.
• Reviews, analyzes, reconciles, and approves financial transactions and reports within integrated financial information systems.
• Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and internal controls.
• Researches and interprets financial data, troubleshooting discrepancies and errors.
• Makes determinations and defines solutions to maintain data integrity and security.
• Prepares, analyzes, and distributes various financial reports.
• Participates in analyzing state accounting services and software applications to meet user needs.
• Conducts special assignments and projects, including system testing and compliance work.
• Recommends changes to processes and procedures to improve efficiency and internal controls.
• Delivers excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
• Communicates effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
• Maintains and updates system tables to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

Requirements

• Three years' experience in analyzing financial data or automated financial information system data.
• Three years' experience in compiling, analyzing, and reporting on financial data.
• Two years' experience in recommending changes to financial processes or systems.
• One year of experience in financial project management.
• Six months' experience in narrative report writing.
