About the position

The State of North Carolina is offering a temporary full-time internship focused on groundwater quality data collection, analysis, visualization, and communication. The intern will work with the Department of Environmental Quality to effectively communicate ambient groundwater quality data to the public through web-based applications. This role involves analyzing groundwater data to enhance understanding of North Carolina's aquifers and developing data visualization processes for both internal and public audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate ambient groundwater quality data to the public via a web-based application.
  • Analyze groundwater data to improve understanding of NC's aquifers.
  • Develop data analysis and web visualization processes for presenting groundwater quality data.
  • Assist in water quality field sampling and data management tasks.
  • Make recommendations on web-based communication of water quality data, including visualizations and maps.

Requirements

  • Must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college or university in North Carolina or an equivalent institution out of state.
  • Must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2025.
  • Must be continuing education in the fall following the internship.
  • Must be able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of data gathering techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze, manipulate, and evaluate information using software.
  • Experience in organizing field studies and preparing written reports.
