About the position

The Statewide Bridge Design Leader will oversee and manage bridge and highway design projects, ensuring successful delivery for various transportation clients in Virginia. This role involves technical leadership, project management, and business development, with a focus on mentoring a team of engineers and maintaining strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversee all aspects of bridge and highway design projects including design-build transportation projects.
• Ensure successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closure of projects.
• Manage communication, status reporting, decision making regarding technical approaches, risk management, and escalation of unresolved issues.
• Lead planning, staffing, scheduling, budget management, quality control, safety, and organization of internal technical and support staff, and subcontractors.
• Focus on client service and satisfaction to encourage repeat business.
• Maintain close relationships with clients, track upcoming project opportunities, and collaborate on project pursuits.
• Ensure quality of project work, client service, staff utilization, marketing, contract management, billing collection, and project profitability.
• Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of transportation projects to meet goals and objectives within time and funding parameters.
• Assist in local marketing and business development for traditional and alternative delivery opportunities, research future project opportunities, and participate in proposals and presentations.
• Represent Jacobs at meetings, presentations, and public hearings related to assigned projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Substantial years of experience in bridge engineering design, design management, and project management.
• Registration as a P.E. in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to attain within 6 months of employment.
• Previous experience working on alternative delivery (Design-Build and PPP) major transportation projects as a PM or Task Lead.
• Experience in stakeholder relationship development and management.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong technical design background in traffic engineering, highway design, and highway drainage, with familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and MUTCD standards.
• Knowledge of and prior experience using CADD/Design Software (MicroStation, etc.).
• High level existing contacts and strong relationships with VDOT and other State & Local government clients.
• Experience managing projects with other clients.
• Experience managing staff and providing career development through mentoring and coaching.
• Actively engaged in professional organizations.
