About the position

This is a seasonal part-time position starting in April 2025. The role involves performing duties at the Passenger Depot related to serving the public with baggage-related issues, including customer service, loading/unloading baggage, janitorial duties, and small maintenance and landscaping tasks. The position requires operating a computerized reservation system to manage reservations, sell and issue passenger tickets, and provide travel information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform baggage handling duties of loading/unloading and delivering baggage to and from trains using a forklift.
  • Operate government vehicles requiring a valid driver's license.
  • Provide service to the public by answering inquiries regarding passenger and baggage information.
  • Provide customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and assisting with travel plans.
  • Coordinate individual bookings and make travel reservations using a computerized reservation system.
  • Collect payment for reservations and issue refunds when appropriate.
  • Print and issue boarding passes and prepare conductor's manifest.
  • Responsible for general janitorial and housekeeping needs of the depot.
  • Conduct problem resolution regarding lost or damaged bags and document unresolved issues.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing Guest Services-related results.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six months of verifiable front-line customer service experience.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting procedures to handle money and reconcile cash balance.
  • Ability to operate a computerized reservation system.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of experience in the travel or tourism industry.
  • Skill to operate a computerized reservation system.
  • Knowledge of passenger and baggage tariffs, railroad services, and ticketing procedures.
  • Previous experience operating a forklift.
