About the position

The Steam/CHW Tech II position at the University of South Carolina involves the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the chilled water and high-pressure steam distribution systems on the Columbia campus. This role is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of the campus's energy management systems, which cover over 200 acres. The technician will work under general supervision and is expected to perform routine maintenance, lead by example, and develop strong customer relationships while adhering to safety and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine installation, maintenance, and repair of the chilled water and steam distribution system including piping, valves, and associated equipment.
• Conduct planned maintenance inspections of the high-pressure steam and chilled water distribution systems and make recommendations for corrective actions.
• Operate and maintain auxiliary campus boilers, ensuring proper operating parameters are maintained.
• Supervise steam crew personnel in assigned buildings when required, assigning duties and monitoring performance.
• Assist with inventory supply and control by managing maintenance supplies and materials.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED with 3 years of experience in a related field, or a Bachelor's degree from a technical school with relevant experience.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of large steam and chilled water distribution systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Six years of experience in the operation and maintenance of steam and chilled water systems.
• Ability to lead by example and develop strong customer relationships.
