About the position

The Steel Detailer/Drafter at JITECH plays a crucial role in supporting Project Managers by ensuring that structural steel drawings are accurately completed according to construction specifications. This position involves modeling, checking structural details for practicality and efficiency, and collaborating with other drafters to uphold drafting standards. The role emphasizes teamwork, engagement, and collaboration within the department.

Responsibilities

• Create and develop structural steel models based on contract documents using SDS/2 steel detailing software.
• Prepare fabrication (shop) drawings and erection drawings as required.
• Help coordinate projects and check drawings prepared by others.
• Maintain a current working knowledge of the AISC/CISC Steel Construction Manual related to connection design and detailing practices.
• Review contract documents to understand project scope and requirements, identifying potential areas of concern and preparing RFIs as needed.
• Interpret and incorporate Approval Comments, Contract Changes, and other revisions into the project scope.
• Prepare necessary lists, documents, or files to support the project, including shop & field bolts, galvanized pieces, CNC files, etc.
• Participate in the quality management program.
• Keep the work area tidy and clean without clutter.

Requirements

• 5+ years' experience detailing structural steel using SDS/2 3D steel detailing software.
• Knowledge of AWS/CWB welding practices and procedures.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Some schooling or practical experience in reviewing/analyzing/interpreting professional drawings such as architectural, structural, or mechanical drawings.
• Knowledge and experience working with CISC/AISC codes.
• Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist is an asset.
