About the position
Trojan Iron Works, a steel fabrication shop located in St. Louis, MO, has been in operation since 1984 and is currently seeking an experienced Steel Fabricator/Fitter to join our team. This position is ideal for individuals who take pride in their work and possess a strong work ethic. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating structural steel and miscellaneous metal fabrications, ensuring high-quality standards are met throughout the process. Our shop is heated during the winter months, providing a comfortable working environment year-round. As a Steel Fabricator/Fitter, you will be expected to read blueprints and skillfully perform layout and fit-up of complex beams, columns, and various steel fabrications. The role requires proficiency in using a MIG welder, cutting torch, and various shop fabrication tools. Dependability, teamwork, and a commitment to safety are essential attributes for this position. This is a full-time role with a standard schedule from 6 am to 2:30 pm, with opportunities for overtime as needed. Responsibilities
- Fabricate structural and miscellaneous steel
- Read blueprints and perform layout/fit-up of complex beams and columns
- Work in a safe manner
- Move materials as needed
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Cut materials to specifications
- Weld components together
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area
- Keep machines and tools clean, functioning, and stored properly
Requirements
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in fabricating/fitting in a structural steel fabrication shop
- Ability to read blueprints and perform layout/fit-up
- Proficient in using a tape measure and performing basic math calculations
- Experience with MIG welding and cutting torches
- Dependable and hard-working
- Ability to work as a team player
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in welding (2 years preferred)
- Experience in fabricating/fitting (2 years preferred)
