About the position

The Steel Production Manager at P&M Steel Company is responsible for leading the production department, ensuring safety compliance, managing resources efficiently, and delivering high-quality products on time and within budget. This role requires strong leadership skills and a commitment to fostering a positive work environment while contributing to both short-term objectives and long-term growth within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the production team to achieve optimal performance and meet production goals.
  • Communicate effectively with team members at all levels, providing clear direction, supervision, and support.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall production quality.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Provide accurate operating data and reports to monitor costs and drive process improvements.
  • Assist in developing the annual budget and multi-year forecasts.
  • Oversee the implementation and enforcement of a comprehensive safety program to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Foster a safety-first culture, encouraging adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Lead a safety committee to ensure continuous improvement in safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to develop production schedules that meet customer demands while optimizing resources.
  • Direct supervisors to meet production volume, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Manage inventory levels to align with customer needs and established goals.
  • Oversee machinery and equipment maintenance to ensure consistent production quality and minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with the Operations team on urgent customer requirements and estimate costs for special projects.
  • Manage workforce levels and scheduling to achieve production goals.
  • Oversee hiring, training, and development of production personnel.
  • Interpret HR policies to ensure all employees understand their roles and expectations.
  • Address personnel issues and apply appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture and implement employee recognition programs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years in manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Welding Certification preferred; OSHA Industrial Safety Standards knowledge required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Understanding of business operations, cost accounting, labor relations, and industrial regulations.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and production schedules effectively.
