About the position

The Steel Production Manager at NOV Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the operations of the steel production facility in Bakersfield, CA. This position requires a dynamic leader who can effectively manage resources, implement corporate policies, and ensure that production goals are met while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. The manager will engage with senior leadership to discuss strategic planning for facilities, equipment, and manpower, ensuring that the plant operates efficiently and effectively. In this role, the manager will champion Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and Quality Programs, fostering a safe and clean workplace while ensuring that the products meet quality standards. The Steel Production Manager will be tasked with consistently meeting production schedules and ensuring timely shipment of products to customers. This includes providing overall leadership to the operations group, setting goals and objectives in collaboration with senior leadership, and implementing plans to achieve these targets. The manager will also be responsible for maintaining all equipment and assets in good operational order, participating in management review meetings to ensure quality programs are efficient, and assisting in the development of direct reports through performance feedback and discussions. Additionally, the role involves evaluating future equipment needs, managing budgets, and leading cost reduction efforts while ensuring that production plans align with customer promise dates. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the facility's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with members of Senior Leadership to discuss overall planning for facilities, equipment, and manpower to operate the plant.
  • Implement Corporate and Facility policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure facility expectations are being met.
  • Champion the HSE and Quality Programs ensuring a safe clean workplace and quality products are achieved.
  • Consistently meet production schedules ensuring timely shipment of products to customers.
  • Provide overall leadership duties to the Operations group at the facility.
  • Work with Senior Leadership to set goals and objectives for the facility and implement plans to meet those goals.
  • Maintain all equipment and assets in good operational order.
  • Communicate consistently with direct reports to ensure Corporate and facility goals are being followed and met.
  • Participate in Management review meetings to ensure Quality programs are operating efficiently.
  • Assist in the employee development of direct reports through performance feedback discussions and one-on-one discussions.
  • Assist in determining future equipment needs or improvements and make recommendations for capital expenditures.
  • Establish effective means of control to achieve objectives of the Facilities.
  • Evaluate, select, recommend, and justify capital expenditures for equipment and buildings.
  • Maintain and monitor budget and manage inventory to achieve planned inventory turns.
  • Manage quality program, maintain related certifications, and drive continuous improvements.
  • Plan and lead cost reduction efforts and effectively lead personnel.
  • Plan and staff appropriately, execute strategy deployment and KPIs, and assure maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Achieve output and profitability targets and ensure production plans meet customer promise dates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Management/Manufacturing related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 - 10 years of Manufacturing experience is required.
  • 3 - 5 years of Leadership experience is required.
  • Previous experience in a steel fabrication environment strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communicator with strong critical thinking capabilities and the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong Financial Acumen and understanding of controls.
  • Broad knowledge of fabrication, machining, and welding practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Demonstrate high analytical thinking and sound judgment.
  • Full understanding of production planning strategies.
  • Results-oriented individual who drives for excellence.
