About the position

The Extended Day Activity Instructor at New York Edge is responsible for leading afterschool programming focused on STEM education for children and teens. This role involves designing lesson plans, implementing curricula, and preparing materials for activities while fostering a supportive learning environment. The instructor will engage students in various STEM subjects, ensuring clear communication of objectives and adapting teaching methods to meet diverse needs.

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with and among students
• Teach or co-lead daily activities
• Learn and facilitate STEM curriculum including Math, Robotics, Science, Coding, Engineering, and/or CHESS
• Engage students in structured discussions & activities to understand coding and integrated technologies
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students
• Participate in ongoing professional development activities
• Prepare materials for daily activities
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
• Support the coordination of program events
• Input data and prepare reports
• Administer pre and post-assessments and evaluations for student activities

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• AA or BA in progress in computer programming, engineering, education, math or similar related degree
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• College credits and/or degrees are highly preferred
• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in a variety of STEM activities and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth
• Experience working with children strongly preferred
