About the position

Wahupa Upward Bound is seeking a passionate and dedicated STEM Tutor to support high school students at O'Farrell Charter School and Kearny High School. The role involves providing academic guidance in STEM subjects, helping students strengthen their skills, and fostering a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in STEM subjects.
• Assist students with homework, projects, and exam preparation.
• Collaborate with Upward Bound staff to track student progress and identify areas of need.
• Foster a supportive and motivating learning environment.
• Track student participation.
• Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills in STEM-related topics.
• Adapt tutoring methods to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.

Requirements

• Strong academic background in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics), primarily chemistry, physics, and calculus.
• Prior experience in tutoring or mentoring high school students is preferred.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Patience, enthusiasm, and a passion for helping students succeed.
• Reliable transportation to travel between O'Farrell Charter School and Kearny High School.
• Availability for up to 10 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling.
