Sterile Processing and Distribution Supervisor

About the position

The Sterile Processing and Distribution Department is responsible for decontamination and reprocessing of reusable instrumentation for procedural and surgical services as well as the cleaning and distribution of reusable patient care equipment in the hospital and clinic locations. The Sterile Processing Department is instrumental in ensuring patient safety through prevention of exposure to contaminated instrumentation and equipment. The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering excellent employment opportunities for one (1) full-time position.

Responsibilities

• Supervising, scheduling, assigning, training, and evaluating Sterile Processing and Distribution Technicians
• Overseeing the operation and troubleshooting of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization equipment
• Resolving equipment failures and ensuring recall processes are followed
• Identifying and mitigating potential patient safety issues
• Conducting regular audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
• Maintaining control of inventory, supplies, and equipment levels to maximize efficiency in a cost-effective manner

Requirements

• Possession of a high school diploma, a G.E.D. equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate
• Possession of a current certification in sterile processing techniques issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)
• Three (3) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience in a Sterile Processing and Sterilization unit of an acute care hospital performing sterilization functions, one year of which was at a lead or supervisory level
