About the position

The Sterile Processing Tech Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the allocation and completion of tasks by staff in the sterile processing department. This role involves mentoring team members, ensuring adequate coverage for decontamination and assembly processes, and maintaining the availability of surgical instruments and equipment to meet departmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate sterilization schedules to meet daily operating room needs.
• Manage staff workload to ensure instruments are available for all surgical cases.
• Train technician staff and assist in the orientation of new employees.
• Complete sterilization, assembly, and packaging of specialty instrument trays.
• Establish proper cleaning methods for different types of instruments.
• Document biological tests to ensure functionality of sterilizing equipment.
• Notify staff of any issues related to biological test results.
• Troubleshoot departmental equipment and restore normal function when possible.
• Coordinate equipment repairs and track status for reporting.
• Identify instrumentation for replacement and repair, processing accordingly.
• Ensure consignment equipment is signed in and processed per department policy.
• Identify ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in sterile processing or a related field.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent certification.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines impacting the Instrument Processing area.
• Ability to teach, coach, and mentor staff effectively.
