About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) position at University Health is a full-time role focused on the decontamination, processing, and sterilization of surgical instruments. The SPT will work in all areas of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and will assist in preparing surgical case carts. This position is essential for maintaining the quality and safety of surgical instruments used in various medical procedures, ensuring that all equipment is properly sterilized and ready for use. The role does not require night, weekend, or holiday shifts, providing a stable work schedule.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Successfully completed a Central Service/Instrument Technician Certification or education where required knowledge has been obtained, or completion of a Surgical Technology Program, or a minimum of 6 months experience working as an instrument technician in an Operating Room setting.
  • Familiarity with sterilization equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify quality measures in instrumentation sterilization.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.
  • Ability to input data into computer programs.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years' experience in instrument sterilization in SPD or an OR setting.

Responsibilities

  • Competently work in all areas of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
  • Function as a resource on decontamination, processing, and sterilization of instrumentation.
  • Perform decontamination, processing, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
  • Assist in the daily preparation and filling of surgical case carts.
  • Perform heavy manual labor including receiving, storage, distribution, and inventory control of equipment and supplies.
  • Conduct data entry and computer work related to inventory and sterilization processes.
