About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician (PRN) at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety by meticulously cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and storing reusable surgical instruments. This position is vital for providing necessary instruments for surgeries and other hospital departments, contributing to the highest standard of patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control practices.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, assemble, and test general and specialty instrumentation for proper functioning.
  • Identify tray type by contents of instrument tray.
  • Identify malfunctioning instruments and replace or report instruments that need repair or are missing.
  • Operate and maintain all sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves, ultrasonic washers, and cart washers.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all washing, sterilization, daily machine testing, and other relevant records.
  • Prepare, assemble, and package all instruments for surgery and other hospital departments.
  • Prepare surgical sets, instruments, and trays according to prescribed procedures, ensuring accuracy.
  • Pull customized case cart sheets for all surgical procedures and prepare case carts.
  • Inventory, maintain, and supply OR storage areas, specialty lockers, carts, and equipment used.
  • Audit trays for decontamination, washing, assembly, sterilization, and instrument count sheets.
