About the position
The Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Sterile Processing (SPD), ensuring the efficient flow of supplies to nursing units and clinics. This role includes managing a team of associates, maintaining documentation, and adhering to sterilization protocols and inventory control practices.
Responsibilities
- Acts as a liaison between SPD, Perioperative Services, Labor and Delivery, and Nursing Units.
- Provides input on PAR level adds, changes, and deletions.
- Takes periodic physical inventories of Floor Stock and SPD to ensure accuracy.
- Operates and instructs associates on the use of inventory control devices, such as scanners and bar code readers.
- Assists newly assigned Floor Stock associates in all facets of SPD functions.
- Ensures adherence to sound inventory control practices, including stock rotation and care custody.
- Demonstrates competence in performing assigned client care responsibilities according to age-specific needs.
- Adapts client assessment and care methods to accommodate unique needs of each person served.
- Establishes and follows written policies and procedures for decontaminating, reprocessing, and packaging instruments and equipment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of infection control procedures related to decontamination and reprocessing.
- Adheres to sterilization protocols as outlined in the Sterilization Reference Manual.
- Leads in the implementation and monitoring of quality control programs.
- Assists in reviewing and revising the QI plan in compliance with hospital and departmental procedures.
- Participates in continuing education and other assigned activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of experience in sterile processing preferred.
- IAHCSMM Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or Certified Registered Central Sterile Tech required.
