About the position

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for maintaining high standards of sterilization and supply management within the Sterile Processing Department. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and safety guidelines while performing cleaning, sterilization, and assembly of surgical instruments. The technician plays a crucial role in monitoring sterilization processes and participating in continuous improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent high standard of supplies in the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Ensure compliance with AAMI, ANSI, IAHCSMM, JCAHO, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments.
  • Maintain a safe environment through the sterilization process.
  • Examine equipment for defects and report problems as required.
  • Monitor all sterilization processing and biological or mechanical tests and results for sterilizers throughout the Perioperative Area.
  • Ensure all instruments are clean and sterile.
  • Perform manual and mechanical cleaning prior to sterilization.
  • Assemble instrument sets and package instrumentation.
  • Ensure necessary supplies are available for the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Identify and assess areas that need improvement and participate in process improvement as needed.
  • Carry out contamination control measures conscientiously.
  • Notify the Director of any malfunctioning sterilizers, equipment, or shortages of supplies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent education required.
  • At least 1-year experience preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Experience and knowledge in decontamination & sterilization techniques preferred.
  • CRCST certification preferred, with certification required within 6 months of hire.
