About the position

The Sterile Processing Technician Associate is responsible for the preparation, care, sterilization, and transportation of medical and surgical instruments, packs, supplies, and equipment. This role involves collecting used and contaminated items, cleaning and decontaminating them, and ensuring that all sterilization processes are followed meticulously. The technician will also maintain records, control inventory, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, care for, sterilize, and transport medical and surgical instruments, packs, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collect used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
  • Manually clean supplies of contaminants and operate decontamination equipment.
  • Prepare and pack decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
  • Monitor and operate sterilization equipment.
  • Examine supplies to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Test and report any issues with sterilization equipment.
  • Sterilize, prepare, wrap, and organize equipment into instrument trays for medical procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries and examinations.
  • Maintain records of sterilization procedures and equipment maintenance.
  • Control inventory, reorder supplies, and check expiration dates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician within 18 months from the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
