About the position
The Sterile Processing Technician Associate is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of medical trays, instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring adherence to infection control practices. This role involves maintaining accurate records, managing departmental inventory, and responding to requests from surgical teams. The technician plays a crucial role in ensuring that all surgical instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean, process, and sterilize trays, instruments, supplies, and equipment following infection control practices.
- Dispense equipment upon request and maintain accurate records of departmental inventory usage.
- Build surgical case carts based on surgical preference lists and ensure all instruments are sterilized properly before adding to the cart.
- Perform instrument decontamination functions, including disassembling, cleaning, and disinfecting instruments and equipment used for patient care.
- Operate decontamination equipment such as sonic washers, cart washers, and sterilizers.
- Utilize the SPM computer system to track instruments and case carts, and monitor sterilization parameters.
- Inspect equipment for signs of wear and coordinate reporting of any issues to Clinical Engineering and the CS Supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Must be a registered Certified Registered Central Service Technician or become certified within one year.
- 0-1 years of experience as a Certified Technician is required.
Nice-to-haves

- Ability to recognize and memorize a large variety of instruments.
