About the position

The Sterile Processing Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of medical instruments and devices used in patient care. This position involves retrieving, decontaminating, cleaning, assembling, processing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical equipment and supplies. The technician is responsible for maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety in the healthcare environment, contributing to the overall mission of St. Luke's University Health Network to provide excellent care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves, sorts, and decontaminates used materials, instruments, medical devices, and equipment from various departments according to established procedures.
  • Performs quality checks for cleanliness, sharpness, and proper functioning of instruments.
  • Conducts high-level disinfection (HLD) on items that cannot be sterilized.
  • Assembles and wraps items in the correct type of packaging material in preparation for sterilization.
  • Sterilizes wrapped and packaged items by steam or ETO.
  • Prepares case carts for the Operating Room.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • SPD certification is required within 18 months of hire.
  • On-the-job training with a minimum of 8 weeks concentrated orientation period.
